Mattek-Sands and Safarova win French Open doubles, third straight major

American Bethanie Mattek-Sands and the Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova claimed their 0.33 consecutive grand slam doubles title with a convincing 6-2 6-1 victory over Australian duo Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua at the French Open on Sunday.

The Highest-seeded pair of Mattek-Sands and Safarova, who also won the 2016 U.S. Open and the Australian Open earlier this year, are one grand slam far from retaining all four majors at the comparable time.

The Australian duo, who had been bidding for their first grand slam title collectively, struggled for almost all of the hour-long contest after their serve was damaged thrice in every set.

Mattek-Sands, alternatively, praised her opponents, who had dropped just one set on their option to the final.

“You guys have accomplished an excellent job and you are an amazing workforce,” the 32-yr-old mentioned. “I’m positive we’re gonna be facing you again quickly.”

The Australian pair reached three grand slam finals together in 2013 without taking house the trophy and had been unable to finish their lengthy wait in Paris, whereas Dellacqua’s total document in ladies’s doubles finals is 0-7.
