Who did you nominate for a blue plaque?

David Bowie, John Peel and Sandy Denny will all obtain blue plaques of their honour, due to nominations made With The Aid Of BBC native radio listeners.

Forty-seven plaques can be unveiled on BBC Song Day this Thursday, recognising pioneering musicians and Song venues across the UK.

Motorhead Megastar Lemmy will probably be celebrated at Port Vale FC, which has adopted Ace Of Spades as its unofficial anthem.

Celebrity tenor Alfie Boe would be the best dwelling recipient of the award.

  • The Mayfair Ballroom, Newcastle: The Place the band who become Led Zeppelin made their live debut
  • Nick Drake: One Of The Most influential voices in folks-rock, commemorated in A Ways Leys, Where he died aged 26
  • John Peel: Broadcasting legend and tireless champion of latest Music, honoured at his native village Corridor
  • Byfield Village Corridor, Northampton: Website of folks singer Sandy Denny’s closing gig in 1978

Q&A with Alfie Boe

Congratulations on being awarded a blue plaque. How does it really feel?

I truly can’t get over it. It Can Be an incredible thing to happen to me, and i am now not taking it lightly. I’m very, very, very honoured.

The plaque will probably be nailed to the wall of Marine Hall, The Place you performed your first gig. What do you keep in mind that of that night time?

I was a 14-yr-old kid and i was very scared, very fearful. We have been doing something known as Songs from the Shows, and that i used to be asked to sing Deliver Him Dwelling from Les Miserables. I never would have concept that, years later, that would were a task I Might have played on Broadway and within the West Finish.

Have You Ever been again to the venue on account that?

I’ve performed there a number of times. It Is a spot that I hang very close to my coronary heart. It’s a little bit gem of a theatre.

I even worked there as stage crew after which within the ready team of workers for all of the banquets and balls they used to have.

I wager they are no longer striking that on the plaque.

Who Are you bringing to the unveiling ceremony?

Obviously my domestic will probably be there and a number of previous friends from Fleetwood. I Feel Michael [Ball] is coming and joining me on the day, as well. I Can’t thank him enough for taking day trip and spending the day in my hometown. I’ll express him around and we will get a bag of chips on the seafront.

And when the adventure’s over, that you would be able to stack the chairs.

Precisely. Stack the chairs and mop the ground, just like previous times.

BBC Song Day is an annual social gathering that objectives “to unite communities and generations thru their love of Song”.
